  26.             STIS is an electronic  dissemination  system  that  provides
  27.             fast,  easy access to National Science Foundation (NSF) pub-
  28.             lications.  There is no cost  to  you  except  for  possible
  29.             long-distance  phone  charges.   The  service  is  available
  30.             twenty-four hours a day, except for maintenance periods.

  36.                o+  Program announcements and "Dear Colleague" letters

  38.                o+  General publications and reports

  69.             There are many ways to access STIS.  Choose the method  that
  70.             meets  your  needs and the communication facilities you have
  71.             available.

  73.                o+  Electronic documents via electronic mail.  Send a mes-
  74.                   sage  to  "stisserv@nsf.gov".  Put  the  command  "get
  75.                   index" in the text of your message.
  76.  
  77.                o+  Anonymous FTP.  Connect  to  "stis.nsf.gov".  Retrieve
  78.                   the file "index".
  79.  
  80.                o+  Direct E-mail.  This service automatically  mails  you
  81.                   information about documents added to STIS.  For infor-
  82.                   mation on this, send the  command  "get  stisdirm"  to
  83.                   "stisserv@nsf.gov".
  84.  
  85.                o+  Gopher.  Connect to port 70 on host "stis.nsf.gov".
  86.  
  87.                o+  WAIS.  There  are  two  databases  on  "stis.nsf.gov".
  88.                   "nsf-pubs"  contains  all  documents and publications,
  89.                   and "nsf-awards" contains award abstracts.

  91.                o+  Online STIS.  You must have a VT100  emulator.  Telnet
  92.                   to "stis.nsf.gov", and log on as "public".

  97.             of the services, and no need to register for a password.
